Thoughts From Minnesota House Candidates

From now until election day, I will be posting a list of emails I receive from Minnesota Candidates for House of Representatives. I hope to get through them all, and I’ll be posting a few at a time. Here we go…

I am a non-smoker who believes the government should never tell business
owners and their patrons what to do with a legal product on their premises….the government should have stayed out of this entirely.

-Troy Buchholz, District 47A (map)

I have known of local bars that have gone out of business because of the ban. I believe that a business owner should have the right to run their business as they see fit.

I have not had a cigarette in 20 years. To me it’s a filthy habit and that is what I teach my children. But I refuse to be a part of any action that would infringe upon the liberties of the public. It is still a legal activity.

As a member of the West Saint Paul Park and Rec Board I have twice voted  motions designed to outlaw cigarette smoking in our city parks.

I would most likely vote for exemptions for certain businesses.

-Bill Jungbauer, District 39A (map)

I would most definitely vote to repeal the smoking ban.  I do not smoke but believe that this ban was an overreach of the government.  This is a legal product–which I might add the government collects plenty of revenue from the sale of this product–and I believe that business owners–not government–should decide whether they allow its use in their establishment.

-Lee Bohlsen, District 56B (map, district scorecard)
