A Good Argument?

I’m proud to say that every day we here at BtBMN are continually gaining support. We appreciate all the words encouragement and the outreach of support.

However, we do occasionally get to hear from the other side. <sarcasm>Here’s an argument from “Jason’s Storm” that seems to be especially well thought out </sarcasm>:

You all are full of crap. I am actually glad smoking is banned in Minnesota, because I can go to a bar with friends and not come out smelling like an ashtray. Just because you have chosen to ignore clear facts, does not mean you are right. You should all get your heads out of your butts, and quit being ignorant. That and quit littering the ground with your cigs.

One thing I’ve noticed about anti-smokers is that their arguments almost always resort to name-calling. Apparently, their arguments are so weak that they decide that calling liberty-lovers names is the route to take, and will somehow help their argument.

Our society has been giving people the impression that they are entitled to whatever they want. It’s no longer, “the pursuit of happiness”, it’s now, “if you’re not happy, it’s somebody else’s fault, and we as a government have to go after and punish that person”.

In this case, of course, it’s about people like “Jason’s Storm” who think they’re entitled to tell all business owners how to run their business. Keeping in mind that the US Constitution guarantees personal property rights, and does not guarantee pollutant free-air, we know which side is in the right, and which side is infringing on the other’s liberty.

We also know the so called “clear facts” are anything but clear. Our main website contains all type of data that prove that second-hand smoke is not nearly as “deadly” as the anti-smokers claim.

As far as the littering “Jason’s Storm” refers to, it seems highly dangerous to base a ban on the fact that some smokers decide to litter. Using that argument, fast food should be banned, because some people who enjoy fast food choose to improperly dispose of their food bags and containers. The unfortunate part of that arguments is that fast food bans are beginning, because of people like “Jason’s storm”.

Remember that imposing your so-called “rights” on another person will lead to the ultimate destruction of liberty. You may now feel that banning smoking is justified, but if we let the ban to continue, it will erode at other liberties, and the foundation on which this country was built will crumble and fall.
