Iowa Bar Owner Ignores Ban

Full Story Here

Kudos to Larry Duncan, a bar owner in West Burlington, Iowa.

Iowa has been under a repressive smoking ban since July 1st. Mr. Duncan, who’s owned a bar in West Burlington for 24 years, is standing up to the asinine law. Now, the police chief is refusing to renew his liquor license as a result of his defiance.

“I am going to ask for a jury trial so the people of the state of Iowa have some voice,” [Mr. Duncan] said. “This is so much bigger than my small business. This law is unconstitutional. Everyone who loves the constitution should stand up and fight this. I am looking at my business closing in a few days if the city doesn’t grant my liquor license…I have been a good community steward. We could be looking at closing our doors because of this. Where will my employees go?”

The West Burlington City Council is expected to discuss this issue at their next City Council meeting. And it sounds as though the council is split on revoking his license.

We here at BtBMN have nothing but respect for Mr. Duncan. It takes a brave man to fight City Hall. It will be interesting to see the outcome, and we wish the best of luck to Larry.
